ForestPaths holds its 4th Annual General Meeting
ForestPaths' consortium came together online this week for the project's 4th Annual General Meeting to review progress over the past year and look ahead to its final six months.
Coordinator Hans Verkerk (European Forest Institute) opened the meeting with an overview of the year's work and priorities for the project's closing phase. Gloria Marsano and Marc Gramberger (Prospex Institute) gave a preview of Policy Lab 4, ForestPaths' final policy lab, which will evaluate forest policy pathways, compare trade-offs, and help shape the project's final policy recommendations.
Several sessions covered the project's modelling work. Joanna Raymond (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) presented land-use modelling using CRAFTY, PLUM, and IMAGE to analyse land-use change, forest management, climate mitigation, and ecosystem services. Thomas Pugh (Lund University) shared forest management modelling using GLOBIO, EFISCEN-space, and LPJ-GUESS, looking at biodiversity, carbon sinks, and harvest levels. Jonathan Doelman (PBL), Cleo Orfanidou (European Forest Institute), and Giuseppe Cardellini (VITO) outlined forest-based mitigation modelling, exploring harvest, timber demand, wood-product carbon storage, and substitution effects. Mikko Peltoniemi (Natural Resources Institute Finland) presented integrated pathway results combining forest and wood-product carbon balances at the European level, exploring trade-offs across food production, employment, and gross value added.
On the second day of the meeting, Valentino Govigli (CMCC) outlined plans to synthesise ForestPaths' results into actionable recommendations for decision-makers and practitioners, followed by a discussion on shaping the synthesis. Tsenka Garova (Pensoft Publishers) presented the project's dissemination work and previewed what's ahead, including the upcoming CANOPY platform. The AGM closed with a session led by Sarah Adams (European Forest Institute), gathering ideas for ForestPaths' final papers through a live brainstorm.
